still raining

Two weeks have gone by in a blitz, and it's STILL RAINING!!! I can't believe it. We had constant rain in Zurich for 3 weeks now! Scotland seems like a sunny holiday place to go, compared with Zurich. Well, actually, that's what I'm going to do. I'm off to Scotland soon and I can't wait! The first proper holiday in a year. I didn't really go anywhere in 2009, after going through the phases from great job, to bad and then to worse job, plus a change in country. So, I think I deserve this one :) The new camera is ready, the golf clubs polished and the rucksack is packed. Bring on my holiday! Forget the Swissness and the rain. Halleluja.

Back to reality once again: Monday

It's just another Monday after a weekend in the UK. Swamped with meetings, rain and tiredness. How could you not get depressed? Weekend was fab though, had one of the best nights out for years. So yeah, again, I had a great time, though it's nice to be back in my own bed I guess. Not that I got much sleep anyway. I just wish the volcano had struck again to keep me in the UK. Ah well..... can't have everything I guess.

Settling in

The last few weeks have been quite eventful with the icelandic vulcano outbreak and the flight bans. I had to change my flights and cancel my hire car but in the end it wasn't too bad. I just went to play golf and cycle around some lake nearby. I'm in desperate need for my UK fix now though. But slowly enough I'm settling into my new life in Switzerland. I have a nice little flat with sometimes a bit noisy neighbours but overall it's good value for money and as central as you can get. I have english telly - wooohoo!!! I got my motorbike over now as well, so hopefully I'll be enjoying some rides into the swiss alps very soon. And of course the golf - I'm only allowed to play the very short academy courses over here, which is rather annoying, but at least I can swing the club every now and then. And I have enough money for my trips to the UK and Germany. Still can't get used to the Swissness, but all in all I guess I'm doing fairly well at the moment. The sun helps a lot of course! :)

Treacherous tram lines

It's the weekend again :) Finally. It's been a somewhat long week. I crashed my new bicycle the other day... by getting the tyres caught up in the tram lines. Damn this. Where's the English Health & Safety when you need it? Thank god I only ended up with a few bruises. My bike has quite a few scratches :( a pedal was broken and the disc brakes seem to have got a hit as well. Great. How to trash an expensive road bike? Just take it to Zurich and try to cycle on a road. Treacherous tram lines. Ruined my weekend a bit, as I was going to go for a little tour out of Zurich. That will have to wait now I guess. But there's still some golf. My arms still hurt from the fall but I'm hoping to be able to play a few holes. Also this weekend the US Masters are on TV. Great to see Tiger Woods back on track and some Englishmen at the top of the leaderboard. Nicely done.

Zurich itself is still quite boring. Nobody seems to come and want to visit. And I can't blame them, neither family nor friends. There's nothing "exciting" to absolutely wanting to show everyone. Thinking of London and Kent, there was the seaside... oh I miss the seaside now that the spring is coming...and the many cheap public golf courses to play on, the old listed buildings, castles, houses and gardens and of course London itself, with all its variety of markets and atmosphere. When I think of Zurich, it's just blank. Bleak really. Maybe I could go onto the Uetliberg or take the boat across the lake for the umpteenth time. Damn this is boring.

Anyone, any ideas? Anything exciting in Zurich that I haven't seen yet?

V again

What a nice day. Four days of no work to look forward too. It's snowing again in Zurich but it's too warm for it to stay. So despite the dark grey clouds my mind is very much on four days off school, playing a bit of Golf and playing some on the Wii indoors.

Didn't I say I was never going back to V Festival??? I just got two tickets for this year's V. Because Kings of Leon are playing. I was so desperate to see them last year, but didn't get a chance. So this can't be missed. It's going to be a hell of a trip, three days, fly over, hire a car and get some decent accommodation. Yes, I ain't going to be sleeping in a tent at V again. It's ok for Latitude, but not V again. I just can't wait! It's gonna be a blast.... whoever will accompany me on this.

Anyways... I wish you all a Happy Easter and a successful easter egg hunt ;)

Thrill me

My cold is slowly slowly disappearing. I got on my bike yesterday, even made it to the lake for a hot chocolate in the sun. I also managed to write my second iPhone App this week. Of course it's nothing special and not on the app store, but I'm getting there slowly :) I have a few ideas...

Anyways, the spring is here and summer is not far away... meaning, Latitude 2010 isn't far away either. I can't wait for a long weekend of music, comedy, fun and hopefully some sun. Here's my current playlist for Latitude 2010:

- Vampire Weekend, Rodrigo y Gabriela (very good instrumental guitar music), The Horrors, Florence and the Machine, Empire of the Sun, Belle and Sebastian, Temper Trap... and a few more :)

But until then there's quite a few things happening in between. Of course the odd weekend in London and in Kent playing golf and going out, a few bicycle rides, and hopefully I get my motorbike registered soon. The weather has been very promising the last two weeks. And then there's a week's trip to Scotland in May which I can't wait for either. I've been planning to go there for years now. Finally it's happening. For next year I'm intending on going to Southeast Asia. The idea initially was to go to the Maldives for two weeks, but to be honest, I can do that until I'm too old to travel. But going for a road trip in Southeast Asia I'll probably not do once I've settled down somewhere... just in case I ever will.

Also for this year I'm participating in a "Thriller Flash Dance" in Zurich. We just had out first session and it's really cool. It'll happen some time this year, somewhere in Zurich. Probably not as big as the TMobile Mob Dance in Liverpool Street Station but it's gonna be a blast ;) For a taste of what it's going to be like, check out the Thriller Flash Dance on the Tube in London. I can't wait to do this somewhere in the middle of Zurich. I wonder whether the swiss will be less reserved than the English ;) We'll see....

How to shake off a cold

By now I'd be really interested in how to shake off this cold. I've been suffering all week. It's Friday night and I still feel like I was hit by a truck. My head aches, my nose is still blocked and I'm constantly tired. I haven't had a cold for such a long time in ages. It's Friday night and the only thing I want to do was watching an 80s movie (Wall Street was the pick of the night) and go to bed early.

I coded another small iPhone app again today. My second one after the Hello World from last week. It keeps me awake. Being ill is seriously boring. But I'm even too tired to read and write now.

At least it's raining outside though. Doesn't make me feel as bad about it. Good Night.
